• 1. Ball Float
Floats on top of the water level in the cistern. When the water is released from the cistern the float lowers and releases the shut off valve on the inlet pipe. This allows more water into the cistern until the float rises and shuts off the water flow.

If the cistern isn't filling with water after a flush, check the Ball Float is moving up and down freely. It may be caught, if it is, the the Ball Float shaft can be carefully bent to allow it move freely. Care should be taken to ensure that where the shaft connects to the Inlet Valve isn't damaged.

If the cistern is constantly filling, it could mean the float isn't lifting high enough. Gently lift the Ball Valve to see if the water flow is affected, if the water flow stops then you need to adjust the height of the float, if the shaft is metal, it can be simply carefully bent down to the required height. Plastic shafts should have a screw adjuster to increase or decrease the float height. Screwing the adjuster towards the Inlet Valve will push the Ball Float further down and stop the water flow.If lifting the Ball Float up doesn't stop the flow of water, then you may need a replacement Inlet Valve. Contact Domestic & General and we will put you touch with a professional.
  • 2. Ball Float Adjuster
To adjust the Ball Float height, rotate the screw in or out. Reducing the distance between the head of the screw and the inlet valve button will make the float higher and allow more water to flow into the cistern. Increasing the distance between the head of the screw and the inlet valve button lowers the float height and reduces the amount of water in the cistern.
  • 3. Siphon Valve
The plunger creates a siphon action within this unit which draws the available water in the cistern through the siphon valve and into the toilet bowl.
  • 4. Inlet Valve
At the end of the inlet pipe there is a simple shut-off valve that when the float arm is pushed against it, the flow of mains fed water into the cistern ceases.
  • 5. Overflow Pipe
If the water level in the cistern rises too far then it will flow into this pipe and either outside the building or down into the toilet bowl.
  • 6. Plunger & Diaphragm
The Plunger is airtight and when the handle lifts within the Siphon Valve it draws enough water up through the unit to cause a siphoning action which will empty the cistern of water down the bowl. Once the Plunger has reached the top of it's action, a one way flexible flap — the Diaphragm, on the top of the Plunger allows it to drop down and water to flow through it.If the Plunger is moving up and down correctly but water isn't being drawn through the Siphon Valve, the one way Diaphragm has probably failed and the Siphon Valve unit will need to be replaced. Although can be done by the competent amateur, but it is recommended that if the Siphon Valve has failed you contact Domestic & General and we will put you in touch with a professional.
  • 7. Flush Handle
Pulling down on the handle pulls the plunger upwards.
