• 1. Before attempting to unblock the toilet using this method, lay out newspaper and old towels on the floor around the toilet in case it overflows, put on some old clothes and you will need gloves.

If you do not have access to a toilet plunger a large empty plastic bottle can perform a similar function.
  • 2. Reduce the amount of water in the bowl to a level where you can move the water vigorously without it spilling over the floor. Either bail the excess water into a container or down the sink.
  • 3. Take a large plastic bottle and cut the bottom off, keep the lid in place. If the bottle has no lid, fashion a seal or keep the top sealed with your thumb or hand.
  • 4. Push the open end of the bottle into the toilet bowl, ensuring that the open end remains completely under the water during the following process.
  • 5. Push the bottle up and down, this creates a vacuum within the pipe.
  • 6. The vacuum created will suck the blockage back into the main drain.
