My clothes are being damaged or torn
- Please make sure you follow these instructions fully. If you have any problems with carrying out this maintenance, please contact us.
To avoid damage to items being dried, it is important to use the correct settings on your dryer and load it correctly. Also make sure that you donʼt try to load garments which are not suitable for tumble drying.
Always check the user manual for details on your specific dryer, but the steps below will give you some general guidance.
You can also see our ‘How to…’ videos, which include some general advice on adjusting the feet of an appliance (double-click the video to view it ‘full screen’). - 1. Make sure that your dryer has not been overloaded. This may cause garments to get trapped between the door seal and the drum which creates friction when the machine starts to work. This can create a burning rubber smell and even smoke, along with damage to the clothes. See the “Loading the appliance and drum care” topic for further information
- 2. Check you are using the correct programme, clothing dried on the wrong cycle may get damaged. Dryers have many different programmes designed to care for different types of clothes. Use the garment care label and check details in the user manual to select a suitable programme, also see the “Laundry care symbols” topic for further information.
- If the above actions haven’t rectified your issue or you don’t feel confident to undertake them please go to our on-line repair booking page to arrange an engineer visit — https://www.domesticandgeneral.com/repairs.
If you have misplaced or lost your user manual, you can download a replacement manual (please have your model number to hand).
