    Check for specific details on your appliance in the user manual, but the steps below will give you general guidance.

    Sometimes when you get your new oven it may have a strong smell when you first use it. This can be caused by a protective coating of oil used during the manufacturing process burning off, or because of insulation surrounding the oven cavity emitting the odours the first few times as it is exposed to the extreme temperatures. These smells are normal and should reduce after the first few uses.

    Note: If you notice a strong smell on first use, ensure the room is well ventilated by opening a door or switching on an extractor fan.
  • 1. If your new oven has a strong smell on first use, turn the temperature of the oven up high (to at least 200ºC/ 400ºF/ Gas Mark 6).
  • 2. Leave the oven to run at this temperature for between 30 and 60 minutes.
    During this time, make sure that you have the room well ventilated by opening windows.
  • 3. If the smell persists repeat the process once or twice more. When you no longer smell oil or the burning odour, allow the oven to cool fully and use hot, soapy water to wipe down the oven.
