    Check for specific details on your appliance in the user manual (particularly if you have a new oven or cooker), and also check food packaging for instructions but the steps below will give you general guidance if you feel your cooked food is not as expected.
  • 1. Cooking Symbols
    The following is a selection of standard symbols you may find on your Belling cooker. Any symbols not covered here will be found in the user manual supplied with your cooker.
  • 2. Defrost
    The oven fan assists defrosting by circulating air around the food, great for delicate frozen foods such as cream gateaux and cheesecakes.
  • 3. Fan Forced
    The heating element surrounds a fan which distributes hot air around the oven, resulting in a more even temperature throughout and faster cooking — ideal for batch baking.
  • 4. Conventional Oven
    Top and bottom elements radiate heat to the centre of the oven — try it for one level cooking e.g. roast, lasagne, cakes, etc.
  • 5. Top Heat
    Brown delicate foods such as rice pudding or cauliflower cheese under a less fierce heat than the grill.
  • 6. Base Heat
    Allows to cook the bottom of pizzas, flans or pastries without drying out the topping.
  • 7. Base and Fan
    Suitable for dishes that require bottom heat, to keep the base crisp whilst cooking the filling or topping e.g. quiche, pizza, tarts, etc.
  • 8. Intensive Bake
    The oven is heated by top and bottom elements, and the fan mounted in the back panel helps distribute this heat throughout. Suitable for perfect pastry — say goodbye to blind baking.
  • 9. Fan Grilling
    Circulates heat from the grill around the food, simultaneously browning and sealing the juices in.
  • 10. Conventional Grilling
    Cooks using heat from above the food, ideal for a range of foods from toast to steak.
  • 11. Pyrolytic
    Operates as an effortless clean function, offering 3 time settings using high temperatures to burn off any baked on grease — Intensive, standard and economical clean options.
