The wash cycle wonʼt start
- Please make sure you follow these instructions fully. If you have any problems with carrying out this maintenance, please contact us.
There are a few different reasons for your washing machine not starting its wash cycle, check through the points below to help diagnose your problem.
Always check the user manual for details of your specific appliance, but the steps below will give you some general guidance.
You can also see our ‘How to…’ videos, which include some general advice on adjusting the feet of an appliance (double-click the video to view it ‘full screen’). - 1.
Check that the door is firmly shut. A wash cycle will not start if the door has not been closed properly. Re-open the door to check for any objects that may be stopping it closing properly. Then try to close the door again.
- 2.
Check the electric plug and lead for damage, it may be that there is no power to the machine.
For more information, see the “There is no power to my washing machine” topic. - 3. Check that you have Power switched ON (or that the programme knob is moved from the OFF position).
If your washing machine has a “Delay” or “Pause” function, check that this is not active. - 4.
Check that the mains water supply is turned on to the machine. If the water supply is not turned on, the machine will not begin its cycle as it needs a supply of water to start.
For the water supply to be switched on, the water inlet tap handle should be pointing at or in-line with the water inlet hose connection as shown. - 5.
Try another electrical appliance in the socket and see if it works, if it does not then it may be the electrical socket in your home at fault.
