• Please make sure you follow these instructions fully. If you have any problems with carrying out this maintenance, please contact us.

Always make sure that you switch off the electric and water supplies to your washing machine before you start any maintenance.

It is important to keep your washing machine and all connecting pipes clean and free from blockages or tight bends. Good maintenance and regular cleaning will reduce the chances of blockages, leaks and bad odours.

Always check the user manual for details of your specific appliance, but the steps below will give you some general guidance.
  • 1. After each wash, be sure to check that no foreign objects or substances are left in the drum. Check for any sign of damage or foreign objects.
  • 2. Your washing machine may have some small drainage holes in the door seal, these are usually in the centre at the bottom. Pull back the seal to check, if the drainage hole is blocked use something like a toothpick to unblock it.
  • 3. Check the pump filter for blockages. It may be that loose items such as coins, hair grips or buttons from garments could have got stuck in the pump housing, preventing the pump from removing waste water.
For more information, see the “Cleaning the pump filter” topic.

You can also see our ‘How to…’ videos, including help on this step (double-click the video to view it ‘full screen’).
  • 4. Check for blockages in the drain hose and any connected waste-water pipework that may prevent waste water draining effectively.
  • If you have misplaced or lost your user manual, you can download a replacement manual (please have your model number to hand).
