    Do not interfere with the gas supply to your cooker or hob. This must only be undertaken by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you are in any doubt, do not undertake this maintenance task.

    Check for specific details on your appliance in the user manual, but the steps below will give you general guidance.

    Keeping the gas burners clean and free from any spilt food helps to ensure better cooking results and a reduced risk of blockages. There are many cleaning products and oven cleaning tools available, refer to the user manual for information on suitable products.

    Note: Always make sure the hob and burners have cooled before cleaning.

    Warning: Always switch off the appliance at the mains switch before beginning any cleaning and always make sure that your cooker or hob has completely cooled down before starting any maintenance or cleaning.
  • 1. Remove the pan supports from the top of the hob and clean using hot soapy water and a damp cloth.
  • 2. You should be able to remove the burner caps from the top of the burner and soak them in hot soapy water.

    To clean light soiling to burner caps use a cloth and hot soapy water to wipe off.
    To clean tough burnt on food try using a fine steel wool pad. Specialist removal substances are available refer to the user manual for more information.

    Make sure that you dry the gas burner caps before replacing.
  • 3. The majority of burners are made of aluminium, it is best (if possible) to remove the burners to clean them. Leave the burners to soak in hot soapy water to help lift the dirt. Clean using a fine steel wool pad or scouring pad to remove and burnt on foods or stains.

    If there is food or grease clogging any of the gas supply holes, unblock them using a toothpick or similar tool.

    Make sure you dry the burners completely before re-fitting.
  • 4. Wipe the hob surface around the burners using a damp cloth to remove any excess debris.

    (Enamel and Ceramic) To clean tougher burnt on stains, use a bicarbonate of soda and water paste, leave this paste on for a short while to allow the paste to soften the burnt on food. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry.

    (Stainless Steel) Clean stains as soon as possible — greasy and acidic deposits can leave permanent blemishes in the surface if not removed soon after spillage.
    Light soiling — Wipe clean using a damp microfibre cloth.
    Heavy soiling — Wipe with a weak bicarbonate of soda and water solution and microfibre cloth.

    Do not:
    use any abrasive tools or substances on a stainless steel hob as this will scratch the surface.
    Always: work with the grain of the steel — never in small circular motions as this may scratch or permanently mark the surface.
  • 5. Once you have re-fitted any parts of the burner removed, make sure all pieces are fitted and aligned correctly.

    If the parts are not correctly aligned the burner may not ignite. This is due to some models of gas burner having a gas burner safety device fitted to stop gas leaks.
